ANSI/TIA-568 defines how a building’s network cabling system should be designed, installed, and tested. It focuses on structured cabling infrastructure, including copper and fiber runs, outlets, patch panels, pathways, spaces, and the labeling and performance requirements that ensure reliable, interoperable connectivity for data, voice, and video networks. This standard helps keep installations scalable and maintainable, so changes or upgrades don’t require rewiring. Wireless networks follow different standards (radio-based, like IEEE 802.11), while data center power and thermal management deal with electrical power distribution and cooling—areas outside the scope of ANSI/TIA-568.
